PLATH 'n' KAFKA

May seem an odd place to put a literary observation so here goes: what do Sylvia Plath and Franz Kafka have in common? Plath was a minor poetess, unknown outside the ranks of her few friends, a manic depressive who wrote self-obsessed, turgid fluff then suicided*. Oh, and she lived in New York City - that should give a clue as to her hyper-cultural connections. She died in 1963? Unlamented, unknown like so many other mental cases.Kafka lived in multicultural Prague, a way-station of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire, the apogee? of multicultural till NYC reached the same nauseating depths of depravity in the 1970's. He worked as a clerk, wrote dull short stories at night read them aloud to a small circle of fellow literary pretenders, then died in 1924. His parting wish to his 'good friend' Max Brod? "Burn all my papers! They've all rubbish!"
Two deaths, so what?! 250,000 people die every day in this world. Why note these two? It was what happened NEXT that made them significant. Plath's husband, poet Ted Hughes, became a huckster for how dead wife's 'greatness' . Before long she was a 'champion of women's rights' .Today, decades later, she is studied at every University in their Women's Studies School, alongside such other lumpen dross as Virginia Wolf, a fellow suicide.**
Kafka 's 'friend' could not keep this promise but spent the rest of his career, which he built on the back of Franz's work, promoting and publishing it in every language. Now, today he too is studies in every University across the declining West - wonder why now? - as a 'prophet of the Holocaust', etc. despite having died nine years before AH came to power in Germany.
Do they study White literature at any of these Universities? No, that would be RACIST. But nihilistic, hateful, alien material of that they can't enough. You wonder why so many healthy-minded white kids go to Uni and after three-four years come out loathing their own people and worshipping the mortal Enemy? Wonder no more.
*Plath gassed herself on 11 Februa 1963. Kafka died on 3 Juno 1924. V.Wolf drowned herself 28 March 1941. **James Kaufman found female poets suffered twice the rate of mental illness of women and women suffered twice the mental illness of men. (Journal of Creative Behaviour 2011, 35 (1).
